What is the DJ.Studio x Electric Takeover?#
The DJ.Studio x Electric Takeover is a guest mix contest created to discover and promote talented DJs from around the world.
Instead of recording a live mix in one take, you can use DJ.Studio to plan, arrange, edit and refine your full two-hour mix before submitting it. This gives you more control over your track order, transitions, energy flow, harmonic movement and overall listening experience.
For 2026, the submission process has been built directly into DJ.Studio. Once your mix is ready, you can submit your entry through the official Contest workflow inside the app.
That means no complicated upload process, no separate recording software and no DJ controller required.
Just build your best mix in DJ.Studio and submit it straight to Electric.
What you can win#
Ten DJs will be selected for the DJ.Studio x Electric Takeover 2026.
Each selected DJ will receive:
A featured two-hour Electric guest mix during DJ.Studio Takeover Week.
A one-year Electric CORE Residency.

Access to Electric’s Headshot Studio to help improve your profile visibility across the platform.
The opportunity to introduce your sound to listeners outside your existing network.

How to enter the DJ.Studio x Electric Takeover 2026#
Entering the contest is simple. Build your mix in DJ.Studio, then submit it through the official Contest workflow inside the app.
1. Build your two-hour mix in DJ.Studio#
Start by building a two-hour mix in DJ.Studio. You can also submit an existing DJ.Studio mix, as long as it fits the contest requirements and is ready for broadcast review.
A strong entry should feel carefully programmed from start to finish, with enough musical variety to keep the full two-hour mix engaging while still staying true to your own sound and identity as a DJ.
You can use DJ.Studio features such as:
Harmonic Mixing to help create smoother, key-compatible blends.
Harmonize to generate a useful starting arrangement.
Timeline Editing to structure your full two-hour mix with precision.
Transition Editor to fine-tune blends, fades and creative mix moments.
Stems to create more controlled and expressive transitions.
Effects to add movement and polish where they support the mix.
Samples to add creative details where they fit the overall broadcast-ready sound.
Your mix should feel like a complete musical journey, not just a playlist of good tracks. Think about pacing, progression, contrast, energy and how each track leads into the next.
2. Submit inside DJ.Studio#
When you are happy with your mix, submit it directly from inside DJ.Studio. Go to:
Export → Contest → DJ.Studio x Electric Takeover
The Contest workflow inside DJ.Studio guides you through the submission process, so you do not need to use a separate external upload form. Your DJ.Studio project is submitted to Electric for review through the built-in workflow.
You will be asked to submit:
Your DJ.Studio project.
Your contest entry details.
Required information includes:
Name.
Email address.
Country.
Before submitting, you will also need to accept the Competition Terms & Conditions.
Do you need a paid DJ.Studio licence?#
No.
A paid DJ.Studio licence is not required to enter the competition.
You will need to use DJ.Studio to create your mix and submit your entry through the official Contest workflow. If you do not already have a DJ.Studio account or paid licence, download the DJ.Studio app, create an account, contact the DJ.Studio team through the in-app chat bubble, and mention that you want to participate in the Electric contest.
What kind of mix should you submit?#
The judges are looking for DJs who can create an engaging two-hour journey through electronic music.
Your mix should be suitable for radio broadcast and should show your personality, taste and programming ability. There is no single correct formula, but a strong entry will usually have clear musical direction, thoughtful track selection, clean transitions and a natural sense of flow.
Accepted styles include:
House
Tech House
Future House
Progressive
Trance
Techno
Creative genre crossover is welcome, as long as the mix remains cohesive and suitable for the Takeover schedule.
Tips for a stronger competition mix#
A good guest mix is more than a collection of tracks. It needs shape, intention and replay value.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before submitting.
Build a journey#
Think about where the mix starts, where it peaks and how it ends. A two-hour mix gives you room to create movement, contrast and tension.
Avoid staying at the same energy level for the entire mix. Give the listener moments to settle in, moments to lock into the groove and moments where the mix opens up.
Make your track selection count#
Fresh music is encouraged. As a guideline, around 50% of your tracklist should consist of music released within the last six months.
That does not mean your mix has to contain only new music. Timeless classics, personal favourites and deeper selections can work well when they support the overall journey.
Keep it radio-friendly#
Your mix must be suitable for radio broadcast.
Do not include explicit language, offensive content or anything that could create broadcast issues. DJ jingles should not be included, as the broadcast will follow Electric branding. Voiceovers are permitted, but should be used sparingly and tastefully.
Use official music only#
Use legally obtained, officially released music from trusted sources such as download stores, record pools, labels or artist-approved platforms. Avoid unauthorised bootlegs, unlicensed edits, unofficial remixes and unreleased material unless you can clearly demonstrate that you have permission to use them. If your mix includes extra samples, edits, recordings or other added audio material, make sure you are allowed to use them. This helps keep your entry suitable for review and broadcast.
Fine-tune your transitions#
Your transitions do not all need to be complicated, but they should feel intentional.
Use DJ.Studio’s timeline and transition tools to check timing, phrase alignment, key movement, energy changes and overall flow. A simple clean transition is often stronger than a forced technical trick.
Let your identity come through#
The judges are not looking for one fixed sound. They are looking for DJs with taste, direction and musical personality.
Show what makes your selection, sequencing and flow different.
What happens after you submit?#
Once your entry has been successfully submitted, you will have the option to:
Export your mix to Mixcloud.
Create a free Electric community DJ profile.
Add your Mixcloud link, biography and social links.
Connect with the wider Electric community.
Creating an Electric community profile is completely optional and has no impact on judging.
It is another way to give your mix more visibility, help listeners find you after the broadcast, and become part of the Electric community.
What happens during DJ.Studio Takeover Week?#
During Takeover Week, each selected winner will receive a dedicated two-hour Electric guest mix slot. Electric also connects the broadcast to listener interaction, live chat, reactions and audio voice-over moments, helping the show feel active while it is on air.
Judging focus#
Entries will be reviewed by representatives from Electric and DJ.Studio.
The judging panel will consider:
Overall musical quality.
Track selection.
Programming and flow.
Creativity.
Technical execution.
Category or slot fit.
